Wednesday morning went to a friends house and he was getting his Harley Dynaglide ready to take in for installation of a new rear tire. He was also going to have it inspected so he can get current plates. The bike has been sitting for over two years without being ridden. Insurance and license plates have both expired. He has a Honda 250 with current tags so he took the plate off the Honda and mounted it on the Harley. Half a mile from home the Harley quits running. He leaves the bike and a motorist gives him a ride home. He gets some tools together and calls me and asks for a ride back to the Harley. Before I get to his house a city cop knocks on his door and asks him if his bike has been stolen. He says no it broke down and he is going back to get it. The cop says no problem, that he got his name and address when he ran the plate.
I pick him up and when we get to the Harley a county sheriff is sitting there. He asks whats going on and my friend explains. The deputy asks to see his drivers license to make sure his name matches the registration. The deputy leaves. I find a loose connection on the battery and tighten it. The Harley starts right up and off my friend goes.
The cops are really alert around here. Two cops reacted within minutes of each other. Luckily for my friend neither of them know the difference between a Harley Dynaglide and a Honda 250 !!!
